Christianity was founded in 30 A.D., by a man named Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus Christ, was born in the town of Bethlehem. He was raised in the town of Nazareth in the region of Galilee. He became a healer of the sick, and helped the poor. He preached about the Kingdom of God.

Religious Leaders

The Pope is the spiritual leader of the Roman Catholic Church. Bishops are members of the clergy who have a position of authority. Priests and Pastors are full-time religious specialists who act as representatives for society's churches.

Places of Worship

The places of worship are churches, sanctuaries, and alters. A church is a place of worship that Christians attend to pray.

Origination

Christianity originated in the city of Jerusalem in present-day Israel. Christianity is 33% of the worlds religion. It's practiced in North America, South America, Europe, Russia, South Africa and Australia.

Beliefs

Christians believe that there is one God who created the universe and everything in it. Forgiveness of sins is one of the key beliefs of Christianity.

Trinity- God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. God is the ruler. Jesus is the son of God.



Sacred Writings

The three sacred writings are the Bible, and the Old and New Testaments.

Religious Practices

Christians pray and worship at church on Sunday and other holy holidays. Jesus taught to love your enemies, help the poor and sick, honor your father and mother and live a good life.

Religious Festivals

Easter is celebrated on the first Sunday after the first full moon on or after March 21st. This is when Jesus arose from the dead and ascended to heaven to be with God. Christians celebrate Easter by attending church, fasting and praying. Some dye Easter Eggs. Christmas is celebrated on December 25th in honor of Jesus' birthday. Many families attend church on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Symbols

The main symbol of Christianity is the cross. Jesus was crucified and died on the cross on Good Friday.
